Play the historic Shawnee Inn and Golf Resort–host site of the 1938 PGA Championship in which Paul Runyan defeated Sam Snead in the final. Graced with magnificent trees, picturesque mountains, and a beautiful river, this course was A. W. Tillinghast’s original design, completed in 1911. The PGA Professionals at Shawnee’s Tillinghast Golf Academy introduce you to the great game of golf and the basics of play including history, etiquette, and rules. The second course you’ll get to play on is a Jack Nicklaus Signature Design at Great Bear Golf Club. Play the highlands and then the island at Shawnee for an exciting golf getaway. Print details.
FRED WARING AND ROAD SCHOLAR’S CHORAL MUSIC WORKSHOP
June 7-12, 2015
Follow the path of Fred Waring – “the man who taught America how to sing” – in the village where he and his music became national icons. This focused and fun choral music workshop is based at the Shawnee Playhouse, where Waring’s famous radio show was brodcast throughout the 1950’s and where the original Fred Waring Workshop began. As you learn and rehearse music we will perform in a concert finale to the program, gain an appreciation for what it takes to mold individual voices into a blended choral sound, and what goes into organizing, producing, and directing a public performance.
