SHAWNEE GREENWAY STUDY
Shawnee Institute recently completed the Greenway Study funded by a DCNR grant. The Shawnee-on-Delaware Greenway is a potential 2.2-mile trail linkage from the 32-mile McDade Trail, currently under construction in the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area (DWGNRA), to the Pennsylvania Welcome Center, located at I-80, Exit 310, Smithfield Township. The linkage would provide for hiking, cross-country skiing, and bicycling. The end product of the current study is a plan which indicates: 1) the recommended trail alignment, 2) the terms of the relationship between the various stakeholders, 3) how to conform with the DWGNRA specifications for the McDade Trail, 4) the feasibility and location of the necessary bridges and crossings, 5) compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) standards and 6) protection of the wildlife and environment in the proposed trail area. Assisting in the project are representatives from the public, the township involved, the DWGNRA and the landowners affected (i.e. National Park Service, etc).Table of Contents
